MR BEN AND CHIKU

Mr. Ben and Chiku were the best of friends, the kind that would make anyone jealous. They even slept together sometimes. Whenever Mr. Ben went to the market, he would come back home with a lot of treats for Chiku. People would often say, "Chiku and Ben, 5 and 6!" Ever since Chiku had been living with Mr. Ben, things had been falling into place for him, to the point that he didn't have to worry about what to eat.

One evening, we were all sitting outside the compound when we started hearing the sound of a dagger chopping wood.

"Oh my goodness!! Isn't that Chiku's voice?" My brother shouted, grabbing my hand. I was scared and sad because Mr. Ben was actually slaying Chiku.

My brother and I leaned over the window and saw Mr. Ben cutting Chiku into pieces aggressively.

"Oh My!!" I shouted and held the pillar tightly. I felt so sorry for poor Chiku, who might have just made a small mistake.

As Mr. Ben continued cutting Chiku, the blood splashed onto his chin. Eventually, he calmed down a bit.

"I didn't expect him to be this inhumane!" My brother said aloud, loud enough for Mr. Ben to overhear us peeping.

When Mr. Ben saw us, he dropped the dagger and wiped his palms on his shirt. The sight of the blood stains terrified my brother, and he fainted.

"What?" I shouted, frozen in place as I realized Mr. Ben was coming outside.

Mr. Ben approached us, holding a sharp knife in his hand. He gave me a sickening stare and asked what I was doing behind his window.

I couldn’t speak because I was already scared of him. He moved closer and warned me not to tell anyone what I had seen.

"Every...dy..." Mr. Ben quickly covered my mouth, stopping me from speaking.

As I struggled to talk, the neighbors came out of their rooms, asking what had happened. One neighbor saw the blood on Mr. Ben's shirt and fainted in fear.

The neighbors asked Mr. Ben what had happened. He looked sad as he glanced inside, where Chiku's body lay in pieces, his blood splattered on the cracked wall.

"Chiku used to be my favorite, and you all know that," he said solemnly.

"Eh eh!" we all replied in unison.

"But my mother called yesterday, saying she needed meat for her birthday ceremony, and I couldn't provide money for her to buy some. That's why I had to kill Chiku, my favorite."

"Oh, what a pity," I said, and the whole neighborhood chipped in to help him celebrate his mother's birthday.

Chiku was Mr. Ben's chicken, but he was so fond of the chicken, and I don’t know what else you were expecting.
