2023 Elections... | Jan 5, 2023
Election is an ongoing formality which started in Nigeria as long as 1959, a year prior to our independence. This elections are process by which Representatives of the Federal Government and its sub's are chosen. NB: Elections can't be mentioned without democracy in view; in other words, Elections only take place in a democratic rule. Election has been an ongoing event since its inception with an interval of four years, and the upcoming one is anticipated to take place on February 12, 2023.
In view of that, an election does not take place just with a head count. We all know that for an election to take place, it must be done with a voters card and prior to every election, voters cards are also made available to be registered by the indigenes of the Local Government Area (LGA) of a state. This therefore brings to our notice that a calculation of the highest voting state is determined by the number of registered voters in a state.
Onwards, an analysis of the preliminary registrar reveals that six states (Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Rivers, Katsina, and Oyo) have the highest registered voters, including both the old and new. Checks have it that Lagos leads with 7,075,192 registered voters followed by Kano with 5,927,565, Kaduna with 4,345,469, Rivers with 3,532,990, Katsina with 3,519,260, and Oyo with 3,275,045 registered voters respectively. The above revelation, which comes on the heels of the disclosure by the INEC chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, shows that in this year's election (2023), the possibility of Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Rivers, and Oyo being the most powerful states by voting power is high.
Recent Updates
The 2023 Nigerian presidential election took place on February 12, 2023, with 18 candidates contesting for the highest office. After a tense and closely watched election, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged as the winner, securing 37% of the total votes cast.
Tinubu's victory was met with both celebration and controversy, as some opposition parties and civil society organizations raised concerns about the electoral process and alleged irregularities. Despite these concerns, Tinubu was inaugurated as the President of Nigeria on May 29, 2023.
Since assuming office, President Tinubu has faced numerous challenges, including economic instability, insecurity, and protests. His administration has implemented various policies aimed at addressing these issues, but the results have been mixed.
One of the most significant protests against the Tinubu administration has been the "End SARS 2.0" movement, which began in June 2023. The protests, led by young Nigerians, demand police reform and an end to human rights abuses. The government has responded with a mix of force and concessions, but the protests continue.
Despite these challenges, President Tinubu remains committed to his campaign promises, including economic diversification, infrastructure development, and anti-corruption efforts. However, his administration's progress has been slow, and many Nigerians remain skeptical about the country's future.
Stay tuned for further updates.
